HIRESOL is Nonionic Urethane associative thickener(HEUR) designed for thickening of water base coatings.
HIRESOL free of solvent is suitable for manufacturing of low VOC water base paints and other coatings and provides
the most versatile means of fomulating to desired film build, flow and high shear viscosity to prevent the roll spatter in water base paint.
Thickening mechanism of HIRESOL is due to an interaction of the thickener with other hydrophobic surfaces.
Thus the more htdrophobic and fine particle latex polymers, the efficient thickening with fine particle Acrylic binder and Styene-Acrylic copolymer binder paints.

The main thickening mechanism of HIRESOL is association between thickener and binder/pigment colloid particles.
Thus associative network minimized volume restricted flocculation that is typical phenomenon of non-associative thickener system.
Reducing of volume restricted flocculation imparts the gloss development and the film integrity to the emulsion paints.

Formulation Guide
■ As mentioned, when HIRESOL is applied to hydrophobic latex (ex. Acrylic emulsions, Styrene-Acrylic copolymer emulsion) based paint more effective for thickening of the paints.
And with fine particle size latex(more higher hydrophobicsurface) HIRESOLis more effective.
■ Higher volume solids of the paint thickening with HIRESOL provides the more effective thickeningbecaus of the more sites for association.
■ Generally adding of the surfactant reduce the thickening effect.
Especially the higher the HLB of the surfactant used, the more reduction in viscosity of the paint.
■ Texanol have little or no effect on KU viscosity of an associative thickener paints. EG and PG used as wet edge agent in emulsion paints have the least effect, while Butyl Carbitol have the greatest effect to the viscosity of the paints.
■ The emulsion paints thickened with HIRESOL associative thickener show excellent paint flow and higher high-shear viscosity.
To design the rheology balance of the emulsion paints (In-canviscosity, Resistance to the sagging), combination with other HIRESOL thickener(HIRESOL 80) or HISOL D thickener is recommended. Then more economical thickener designing will be possible.
Safety and Handing
HIRESOL is slightly irritating to the skin and eyes. Avoid contact with skin and eye. When handing wear impervious rubber gloves and goggles/Face mask.
For handing/operation where possible contact may occur, a safety shower and eye wash station/facility should be available. Further detailed information can be found in the MSDS sheet.
Handing/Dosing equipment
Stainless steel, plastic, rubber and glass are considered for use in contact with HIRESOL, while mild steel, copper, brass, bronze, aluminium and zinc should be avoided to prevent contamination of the rust.
Store in closed container at between 5-40℃.
